This router from DeWalt has a 1/2" collet capacity, and is supplied with both a 1/2" and a 1/4" collet to allow you to use your existing 1/4" router bits. This makes it an ideal upgrade path from the quarter inch router as you won't have to re-buy the bits you use most frequently, but can now get the larger bits you need to get the more challenging jobs completed.
You can use collets in sizes 12mm, 1/2" (included), 8mm, 1/4" (included), and 6mm. The speed of the router can be set in a wide range of 7 settings from as slow as 11,000 rpm to as fast as 23,000 rpm, letting you match the speed to the requirements of your router bit. The latest generation of brushless motor gives you a huge power rating of 2.25 horsepower, allowing it to operate the most serious of bits, such as cope and stick bits.
The onboard circuitry constantly monitors the load on the motor, and instantly increases power delivery if it detects a higher load, preventing it from bogging down, and resulting in a constant speed. The two ergonomic and rubberised handles on the router are pitched forward, making them easier to hold steady during longer cuts.
